AIDS Wolf
Montreal’s AIDS Wolf lurks in the chaotic musical netherworld inhabited by Sonic Youth and Black Dice, but its spastic, deliberately abrasive morass of feedback and screaming is far more likely to grate on the nerves of the casual listener. Not that the band cares, proudly declaring that off-putting noise is the point: “If you can’t convert ’em, make ’em run crying and holding their ears.” Whittled down to a frenzied trio, the band released March To The Seain 2010, a polyrhythmic collision of Morse-code guitars, broken-record drums, and co-founder Chloe Lum’s strangled caterwauling. The band’s touring behind its brand-new double LP, Ma Vie Banale Avant-Garde. Its self-deprecating title has it half-right; AIDS Wolf is nothing if not an original.
