Those already bored with roots-rock revivalists—particularly from city boys whose only exposure to the heartland is what they’ve gleaned from Band lyrics—are likely to be shocked by New York’s Alberta Cross. The group’s adrenalized, thrumming take on the sort of needling, heartsick howls of Neil Young (with whom the band’s toured, alongside avowed fans Oasis) is one of the least familiar versions of Americana around—less rusty barn ruminating, and more burning that fucker down. The band plays here behind its 2009 full-length debut, Broken Side Of Time, recorded in Austin with …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead/Spoon producer Mike McCarthy.
