Alesana
North Carolina’s Alesana announced its over-the-top ambitions with its first full-length, 2006’s ridiculously titled On Frail Wings Of Vanity And Wax, which chugged through screamed verses, Maiden-inspired harmonized guitar passages, and woe-is-me choruses. 2008’s sophomore album, Where Myth Fades To Legend, tipped even further toward fantasy, scratching out the emo angst of stories inspired by the Brothers Grimm. 2010’s The Emptiness—Alesana’s first with guitarist Jake Campbell—is no less fantastic, based on poems written by Edgar Allan Poe for his wife, Virginia Clemm. The brand-new A Place Where The Sun Is Silent turns to Dante’s Inferno for inspiration. Oh boy.
