Artist Allá

  • Alla

Allá is Spanish for "over there," and the name is likely intended as a nod to both the Latino indie-rock band's native language and its wide-ranging music, which plucks psychedelia and pop elements and fuses them with Phil Spector's Wall Of Sound production techniques. On the Digs EP, the trio offers new interpretations on songs it likes. Allá's tastes, as it turns out, aren't as foreign as the name and music might imply: a moody, dirge-like take on Kanye West's "Love Lockdown" and a studio version of live staple "New Hymn" by The Residents round out a third of the release's tracks. The best example of Allá's sound, for now, is still 2008's Es Tiempo, which is jazzier and finds more Mexican influences seeping in.
