Alpha Consumer

Minneapolis indie rock three-piece Alpha Consumer is responsible for writing the kind of catchy, buzzed-up, punky songs that stick to listeners’ brains like old gum under a diner table. The act’s 2009 release, Kick Drugs Out Of America, is chock-full of these kinds of tracks: slash amp distortion fuzz washing out danceable guitar riffs and sing-along vocals that’ll get heads nodding and tails wagging in time. The band writes great, lyrically sound pop numbers with a heavy dollop of sneering rock ’n’ roll sensibility laid over the top. The effect hits its mark so wholly that when the band slows down to produce something else, like sound country number “Yellow Sun,” you’re as surprised as you are delighted.
