Amanda Palmer
Singer-pianist Amanda Palmer is best known as one-half of The Dresden Dolls, the bombastic “cabaret punk” outfit she fronts with drummer Brian Viglione. The duo hasn’t released a new studio album since 2006’s Yes, Virginia—a compilation of unreleased material called No, Virginia followed in 2008—but Palmer has been busy. Her 2011 solo album, Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under, was mostly culled from live performances of songs written, performed, and recorded in Australia and New Zealand. Fans of her day job should have no trouble making the transition to Palmer’s solo work, as the music is virtually indistinguishable from that of the Dolls.
