Amebix

Straddling the glass-strewn divide between Crass’ anarchist rallies and metal’s gloom and doom, the scummy, gutter-rat sound of England’s crust-punk progenitors Amebix was far from posturing: Its members squatted in abandoned buildings and ate from Dumpsters, a bleak existence that informed 1985’s apocalyptic and influential Arise!. The band recently reunited to promote 2008’s No Sanctuary: The Spiderleg Recordings.
