Amy Cook

Amy Cook

Formerly known as When Nobody’s Listening, Todd Robinson’s new documentary Amy Cook: The Spaces In Between is a much more fitting summation of the Marfa/Austin singer-songwriter. For one thing, it’s a decent descriptor of the hushed alt-folk artist’s sound, which emphasizes ruminative silences and lyrical interpretation more than straightforward sentiment. For another, it’s likely plenty of people will be listening to Cook’s forthcoming Let The Light In, especially given the participation of glam-billy hero Alejandro Escovedo and reformed grunge kid Ben Kweller—who pitched in with production and co-writing duties, respectively—and the addition of the esteemed Tosca String Quartet.
