Amy Sedaris made her name with her character Jerri Blank in Strangers With Candy, but she’s also a cupcake aficionado, a writer, and a seasoned domestic entertainer. In her book Simple Times: Crafts For Poor People, Sedaris draws on the current economy, offering instructions for inexpensive arts (“buy fruit, let it get old, and see what shapes it turns into”) and handy crafts (crab-claw roach clips, crepe-paper moccasins). Although Sedaris likes to say her books are great for the illiterate because of their many pretty pictures, she apparently likes enough of the text to warrant readings and signings of the new paperback edition.
