The two Australians in An Horse got an ideal introduction to U.S. audiences when they toured with Tegan And Sara in 2008. A spin of Walls, An Horse’s recent sophomore album, quickly reveals why the Quin twins so eagerly championed the duo. Singer-guitarist Kate Cooper and drummer Damon Cox write guitar-pop around a familiar formula, but with a sense of urgency that avoids their patrons’ occasional repetitiveness. Walls doesn’t necessarily aim to challenge, but benefits from a gritty, understated approach and Cooper’s direct, charmingly messy lyrics.
