Ana Sia

Based in San Francisco, electronic artist Ana Sia has combined dubstep and glitch to produce a sound she calls “global slut psy-hop” for her purely electronic sets. Her mixes court a sleek sense of mystery, especially when Middle Eastern- and Indian-inspired melodies and percussion sounds show up in the mix, or when the beats slow to woozy bobs. At the same time, they make good on her playful “crunk” aspirations, thanks to sleazy, static-bumping undercurrents. In 2011, Ana Sia curated Surreal Estate, a compilation gathering all original tracks spanning genres like electro-funk, dubstep, and other spaced-out grooves.
