Big and dramatic by way of Snow Patrol and Coldplay, Long Island’s As Tall As Lions creates the kind of soundtrack music Grey’s Anatomyproducers pine for. Led by Dan Nigro’s vocals (think a less soulful Patrick Stump) the quartet’s soft, soaring crescendos are a heavy mix of piano, guitar, and rambling percussion. Last year’s You Can’t Take It With You carried on the band’s dreamy and heavily produced reverberations, staying true to the Lions’ established moody-rock sounds. The band recently announced an amicable breakup to focus on what were formerly side-projects. Preferring the constraints of performing pre-meditated, already-written music, Nigro will carry on with a new project called Blocks, and the remaining members will focus on experimental-improvisational-instrumental group Kilimanjaro.
