Taking The Flying Lizards' sterile pop covers to their most logical conclusion, the man known simply as Automusik crafts similarly minimalist odes to sex, pain, and hate that are completely sexless but seething with pain and hate. (And true to that comparison, Automusik does its own bleep-bloop-filled version of "Hound Dog.") It's a joke played 100-percent straight, complete with Dr. Strangelove drag, cheap digital visuals, cheaper beats, and go-go-booted "Female Rock Units." There isn't a single sensibility, American tradition, or mega-popular pop act Automusik is afraid to insult according to the second of "the five truths of Automusik": "Work and talent mean nothing—you must make noise."
