A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

Artist Awesome Color

The churning guitars and throbbing rhythms of Awesome Color’s debut recalled the primal intensity of The Stooges, but the band worked with such a narrow focus that it was hard to tell whether Awesome Color was an inspired disciple or just a slavish imitator. Fortunately for all concerned, 2008's Electric Aborigines found the group’s songwriting sharper and its reach expanded, ensuring that Awesome Color won’t get dismissed as a tribute band. In concert, the band’s fuzzed-out assault is a thing to behold, as it reclaims the raunchiness of ’60s garage rock for present day.
