Artist Bachelorette

  • Bachelorette

Cool science-fiction motorik with hints of Nico, Can, and Silver Apples: Yeah, Stereolab perfected that formula years ago. But Annabel Alpers, the core of New Zealand’s Bachelorette, sublimely transmutes those elements into an icy breeze all her own. Aided on record by a computer and little else, Alpers dishes up refrigerated pop that beeps, tickles, and soothes all at the same time. Even better, Bachelorette’s 2009 full-length, My Electric Family, achieves one of the neatest and most refreshing tricks in recent indie-rock memory: making a laptop sound totally stoned. The band is now touring behind its 2011 self-titled fourth album, out on Drag City.
