Backyard Tire Fire
A resourceful trio building Americana’s traditional charm into something more liberating, Backyard Tire Fire manages to sound humble even as it throws in more abstract twists. On 2008’s The Places We Lived, the band’s experimentation feels organic, gently underscoring a collection of low-key, folky numbers that grow more likeable with every listen. The band's newest, Good To Be, wholly embraces its country-rock core, pounding through grimy tunes tailored to Midwestern dive bars and espousing a happy, drunken existence: "It's okay, it's alright, I'm alive and it's good to be."
