Bad Sports
Wearing the meanest sneers out of all the bands to emerge from Matador’s Casual Victim Pile, Denton’s Bad Sports walk a wobbly line between tightly wound, three-chord bursts of punky incitement and Who-indebted garage-rock mini-epics. The key to both sounds is attitude, which spills out of co-vocalists Orville Neeley (playing down the “Iggy Pop Of Beerland” persona he embodies as the frontman for OBN III’s) and TV’s Daniel, whose low-slung bass-thrashing suggests he’s the source of most of the band's Ramones-isms. The band’s self-titled debut on Atlanta’s Douchemaster Records and 2011 album, Kings Of The Weekend, serve as perfect gateways to the snottier sounds of Denton.
