Artist Barenaked Ladies

Steven Page’s gigantic voice and theatrical affectations were long the soulful counterpoint to Barenaked Ladies’ ever-present prankster streak. But despite Page’s 2009 departure, 2010’s All In Good Time contains the weightiest BNL material since the sepia-toned post-grad rock of 1994’s Maybe You Should Drive. The record’s first single, “You Run Away,” is the type of ballad that would’ve been a Page showcase, but his former bandmate Ed Robertson makes an able replacement, introducing the disc’s themes of moving on—a theme indicative of its adult-contempo sweep. The band doesn’t entirely sacrifice its sense of humor on All In Good Time, and its off-the-cuff charm should be on display live.
