Bassnectar
True to his DJ name, San Francisco producer Lorin Ashton makes a point of generously gobbing on the lower frequencies to make a wild variety of dance music influences congeal in engagingly dense, grimy mixes. It’s aimed at getting a music-festival-like stew of people dancing and/or zoning out—and Bassnectar’s live shows usually involve a trippy light show and video projections, at the very least. But, like his latest record, Divergent Spectrum, it’s also dynamic and varied enough to hold some of the folks who’d rather sit at home with headphones on than go to Burning Man.
