Beach House
A band that couldn't sound any more like its name, Baltimore-based Beach House has released three albums of hazy dream-pop filled with uncommon depth and beauty. Lush organs swirl around Victoria Legrand's powerful voice, while multi-instrumentalist Alex Scally gently washes the proceedings with slide guitar and electronic flourishes. Both 2006's self-titled debut and 2008's Devotion saw Beach House refining its formula and gradually expanding its sound, but the band's latest album (and its first for Sub Pop), Teen Dream, is by far its most accomplished, with strong melodies and ambitious arrangements that reveal something new with every listen.
