Local metal quartet Beastface is of the wallet chain-sporting sect, but the band is not defined by it. With a style that hopscotches from genre to genre under the hard rock banner, the band comes off like a harder-edged Pearl Jam that occasionally dips into the prog-metal of Tool. From a technical end, Beastface is sharp—and the band will let you know it. The breakdowns in the band’s songs serve as pedestals for axe-shredding masturbation. There’s nothing overtly cool about Beastface’s sound, but the intrinsic pull to rock out—in earnest—can transcend hipness.
