Bebel Gilberto
She’s the daughter of legendary Brazilian composer João Gilberto, but Bebel Gilberto has made a name for herself by deftly mixing samba, pop, bossa nova, and electronic sounds on albums that have garnered critical laurels and attracted enough fans to place her in cushy venues across the country. Although born in the U.S., Gilberto's native tongue is Portuguese, and that language dominates the songs on her latest, All In One, released in the fall of 2009. The album is her first for new home Verve, and though it seems pitched more toward American ears, it recalls the earlier work she did with Brazilian producer Suba, who died before completing Gilberto's Grammy-nominated 2000 album, Tanto Tempo.
