Beenie Man

Kingston-born Beenie Man isn’t new to the reggae game—the musician/MC/DJ/producer was practically born into it—releasing his first single, “Too Fancy,” before he was 8 years old and a full-length album by the age of 10. More than two decades and almost two dozen studio records later, Beenie Man has persevered, though he’s never quite broken into the American mainstream. That’s not to say he’s not a master at his craft; the performer has been called “The King of Dancehall,” and 2009 saw the release of his 28th single, “Gimme Gimme Gimme.”
