Ben Lee
Ben Lee has been an indie-rock fixture for so long that it’s hard to believe he’s only 30 years old, but the Australian singer-songwriter has definitely come a long way since recording “I Wish I Was Him,” his 14-year-old ode to Evan Dando. After getting a nice promotional push from people like Thurston Moore and the Beastie Boys during his teen years, Lee has made a name for himself as an adult by writing well-crafted, heart-on-sleeve songs that either make listeners swoon or barf. Lee’s ear for melody is still sharp on his 2009 album The Rebirth Of Venus, though it can be difficult to overlook the cheesiness that pervades an album dedicated to a Roman goddess and includes songs like “I’m A Woman Too.”
