After a failed acting career, Benjy Ferree took up guitar and began writing what would become his debut album, 2006’s Leaving The Nest, with production help from Brendan Canty of Fugazi. The album was a quirky mix of indie folk and Sufjan Stevens-esque expansiveness, with vulnerable, mellow songs such as “Why Bother” breathing comfortably alongside gritty rockers such as “Dogkillers!” That tendency toward grizzled black-jacket rock wins out on Ferree's 2009 album, Come Back To The Five And Dime Bobby Dee Bobby Dee.
