Artist Bi-Polar Bear

Formerly known as Horton The Irrelevant And August The Creep—as recently as 2007’s Strange Passengers—the former Madison, current Brooklyn hip-hop duo wisely changed its name to the shorter and more memorable Bi-Polar Bear. Under that name, the duo made a surprisingly bouncy slab of confessional rap in 2009’s Today I Found Happy. “Night’s Like This” sneaks some serious stuff past, afloat on a propulsive beat; and “Fuck Her” (which is not a sex jam) smokescreens its vitriol with hyperactive scratches and super soul samples. The pair is currently working on a follow-up, When Ledge Is Home, that features Blue Sky Black Death, Junk Science, and Young Einstein of Ugly Duckling.
