Biz Markie

Biz Markie

Beloved rap clown and beatboxing legend Biz Markie laid down some of hip-hop’s most enduring novelty songs, including “Just A Friend” and the timeless “Young Girl Bluez.” Though a big name in the late ’80s, Markie hit a rocky patch with the poor reception of 1991’s I Need A Haircut (which consequently got him sued over a Gilbert O’Sullivan sample) and its terrific but unappreciated ’93 follow-up, All Samples Cleared!. He’s since found a new life as a DJ, with just one additional rap album (2003’s Weekend Warrior) and the occasional guest appearance on Beastie Boys albums and in shows like Celebrity Fit Club, oh, and Nickelodeon’s hip musical kid’s show Yo Gabba Gabba! Markie has joined YGG! for its live touring show with similarly cartoonish pop-punk band The Aquabats.
