Artist Black Label Society

  • Black Label Society Joel Faurote

Though he’s caused a stir with hard-line Republican views and outspoken hatred of Fred Durst, Zakk Wylde’s chief claim to fame is an off-and-on stint as Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist. But he’s also a bandleader in his own right, with a deep catalog of Black Label Society albums to his credit. Last year’s Order Of The Black came in the wake of some major personal struggles for Wylde: health problems, a permanent split from Osbourne, and the decision to get sober. Those struggles figure heavily into the personal material contained within Order Of The Black, and while the record still focuses on the Black Label Society’s signature Southern rock-infused metal, it also finds Wylde occasionally trading wicked riffage for piano-based introspection. The new The Song Remains Not The Same offers unplugged versions of some of Order’s songs and unused material from that album’s recording sessions.
