Blitzen Trapper
Blitzen Trapper once churned out noisy pop songs that exploded haphazardly in every direction, but recently it has taken to blatantly aping the stalwarts of classic American rock ’n’ roll—most obviously The Band, Neil Young, and The Beatles. On 2008’s Furr, Blitzen Trapper did a reasonable job cranking out facsimiles of legitimately great tunes, but on Destroyers Of The Void, the band’s 2010 Sub Pop effort, the hollowness of singer-songwriter Eric Earley’s work finally caught up with him. Fortunately, on the new American Goldwing, Earley and company revisit the bygone glory days of 2008, picking up where Furr left off to deliver a masterful homage to no-frills ’70s Southern rock.
