Bob Seger
Most people born after 1975 know Bob Seger as the guy who sings “Like A Rock” in Chevy commercials. But now that John Mellencamp has been tapped to croon roots-rock ditties in service of rugged trucks, Seger is something else again. In 2006, he recorded his first new album in more than a decade, Face The Promise, he released a rarities disc only through Meijer, and he remains a guiding light for Kid Rock, who ripped off the cover of Seger’s Live Bullet for his own release, Live Trucker. If that wasn’t enough to answer for, oldies stations still spin “Old Time Rock ’N’ Roll” on a regular basis, removing all reasonable doubt that “just take those old records off the shelf” is the most ugh-worthy opening line in rock history.
