Bobby Collins
Before Bobby Collins was a comedian, he was a jewelry salesman. When his sales pitch caught the eye of designer Calvin Klein, Collins was hired on at the fashion empire and he climbed the ranks to eventually become vice president of the company—all this before the age of 30. But his true calling was stand-up, and the comedian eventually left the fashion business to work his observational humor in the clubs of New York City. In the late ’80s, Collins’ took Rosie O’Donnell’s place as host of VH1’s Standup Spotlight, while also opening for the likes of Frank Sinatra and Cher. Collins keeps his routine fairly PG-13, with a storytelling style punctuated by his gruff delivery and rubbery Queens accent.
