Bomb The Music Industry!

Bomb The Music Industry!’s name isn’t just a valid suggestion, but it’s also an apt description of the band’s DIY attitude. Primarily the creation and work of frontman Jeff Rosenstock, the Brooklyn-based ska collective releases all of its self-recorded and self-produced albums online for free. In addition to high-energy screeds against corporate shills, Rosenstock’s clever songwriting and gravelly punk vocals cover a myriad of adult failures—shitty apartments, doomed relationships, dead-end jobs—with just the right amount of self-deprecation and melancholy. Songs are steeped in the usual ska trappings of bombastic horns and blistering bass lines, with occasional forays into offbeat synths and 8-bit effects. The group’s latest album, Vacation, a follow-up to 2010’s Adults!!!: Smart!!! Shithammered!!! And Excited By Nothing!!!, was released in summer 2011.
