Boys Like Girls
Boston’s Boys Like Girls may never be critical darlings. Let’s face it: Most people hate happy-go-emo bands like this, purveyors of sunny, major-chord love songs for the Pac Sun crowd. (See also: Metro Station, All Time Low, and so on.) But that doesn’t stop them from blowing the fuck up. Boys Like Girls’ 2006 self-titled debut brought a wave of teen-friendly success with catchy singles “Hero/Heroine” and “The Great Escape,” prepping the band for MTV stardom. A follow-up album, Love Drunk, was released last month. The title track and first single has a perky, upbeat appeal that appeals exactly to who it’s supposed to: all the fans, and none of the critics.
