Artist Brent Puls

Brent Puls has navigated seemingly every corner of the Chicago music scene. He started DJing and making hip-hop beats in high school, taught himself guitar and flute, and formed the funk band Bumpus, best known for its former vocalist, Rachael Yamagata. With West Of The Lake, Puls has taken yet another creative turn, crafting a debut solo EP of gently orchestrated folk pop. On the title track, Puls navigates the city through the eyes of a naive and easily wowed newcomer. It’s a sense of wistful introspection that runs throughout the record, even on an oddly disco-less cover of Pulp’s “Disco 2000” that fits surprisingly well with Puls’ theme.
