A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

Artist Brian Regan

Most of today’s best comedians are also acrobatic vulgarians, which makes it harder and harder to separate merely inoffensive comics from unfunny ones. So it’s a bit tough out there (but not too tough) for folks such as Brian Regan, whose observations of the mundane nicely overcome their own gentleness, at least for those willing to pay attention. Even if Regan’s material isn’t particularly timely or hard-hitting, he’s a solidly funny performer who shouldn’t be lumped in with actively crappy comedians. His most recent DVDs, Standing Up and The Epitome Of Hyperbole are part of a multi-project deal with Comedy Central capturing his one-hour specials with the network.
