Broken Social Scene
The latter half of the ’00s saw books (This Book Is Broken) and films (This Movie Is Broken) dedicated to Broken Social Scene, as well as a significant increase in profile for its members—notably vocalists Leslie Feist and Emily Haines. All of this made the band’s fourth record, 2010’s John McEntire-produced Forgiveness Rock Record, a highly anticipated releases. The album lives up to expectations, taking its cues from its stellar opener, “World Sick,” swelling and booming into near-chaotic pop that’s almost always better for the excess of hooks, energy, and collaborators.
