Artist Brownout!

The slightly funkier alter ego of Prince-backing rockers Grupo Fantasma, Brownout! brings in distinct funk and soul influences derived from James Brown and Sly And The Family Stone and rescues Latin music from salsa-derived sameness, coloring everything with a mescal haziness and the occasional African chant. The band’s deep-pocketed grooves and six-string trips are treated to electronic finery and surprisingly effective cut-and-paste jobs on 2010’s Aguilas And Cobras: Remixed And Reworked.
