Artist Bryan Scary And The Shredding Tears
Bryan Scary recorded his 2006 debut, The Shredding Tears, all by himself, which has led to some hyperbolic comparisons. The influence of classic pop geniuses like Brian Wilson, Jeff Lynne, and John Lennon is indeed all over Scary’s meticulously arranged opus as well as its 2008 follow-up, Flight Of The Knife, but excessive plaudits are naturally suspect. Nonetheless, his pop is winningly psychedelic and his campy backing band The Shredding Tears is pleasantly theatrical. The group is on tour now behind the EP Mad Valentines, Scary’s first output on Brooklyn label Old Flame Records.
