Buffy Sainte-Marie
Folky “village person” Buffy Sainte-Marie is a true performer for the ages. The exact age breakdown looks something like this: To the beat-hippie straddlers of the early to mid-1960s, she was an earthy, peaceful artist inspired by her Cree heritage, a musical peer of Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, and Vashti Bunyan. Those slightly younger may have had the pleasure of being serenaded by Buffy in the mid-to-late ’70s on Sesame Street—partially because she was blacklisted from mainstream adult programming on account of her “radical” message.
