Artist Caddyshack
Bill Murray’s portrayal of a mumbling, self-deluded groundskeeper—including golf-announcer impressions and Dalai Lama stories—may be the most original aspect to the quintessential “slobs vs. snobs” ’80s comedy Caddyshack, but when it comes to quotables, it’s very much the Chevy Chase and Rodney Dangerfield show. Defining the smug character he’d play until audiences realized he really is kind of a prick, Chase is all snappy rejoinders (“Don’t sell yourself short, Judge. You’re a tremendous slouch.”) that stand toe-to-toe with Dangerfield’s affable vulgarisms (“Wanna make $14 the hard way?”) in the first and last great golf comedy.
