Carl Craig

Of the early wave of Detroit techno producers, Carl Craig stands as the most artful and intriguing. Never content to stick to the typical playbook, Craig’s techno often reaches out to encompass other genres, from world music to jazz to soul, and maintains an organic feel even when delving into the robo-repetition that is the basis of Detroit’s sound. Craig’s early career was marked by his 1992 hit “Bug In The Bassbin,” released under his Innerzone Orchestra alias, and a 10-minute reworking of Tori Amos’ “God” that showed how adventurous he could be. After a quiet mid-’90s, Craig leapt back onto the scene in the 2000s with remixes of Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom and of The Junior Boys (for which he received a Grammy nod).
