Artist Caroline's Spine

Slotting in nicely with the modern rock radio scenery of the late ’90s, Caroline’s Spine’s jocular alt-rock anthems have always been anchored by Jimmy Newquist’s hearty, nasal caterwaul and slightly more inventive songwriting, especially on the chugging, wartime casualty narrative “Sullivan.” Newquist has said that the songs always start as his songs before being plugged into modern rock tropes and becoming Caroline’s Spine tunes, so it’s just as well that Newquist is the only remaining original member. His voice, sounding a little more like Dick Valentine’s from Electric Six now, is still the biggest draw to the band’s fairly innocuous music, most recently displayed on the eight-song EP Work It Out.
