Chants

Jordan Cohen has been making a racket around Madison for quite a while, banging on the drums for bands like Mama Digdown’s Brass Band and The Bombshelters, and fiddling around with electronic music on the side. In 2010, Cohen released the results of his sonic tinkering, labeling his project Chants and its debut album Onlooker. Along with an impressive cast of local contributors, warped instrumentation, and found sounds, Chants stitched together skittering beats, textural atmosphere, and hooky melodies into jazz-indebted odes like “Black Ants” and brightly lit 8-bit drum and bass like “Day Glow.” Cohen’s busy at work on a follow-up and dropping tracks along the way, like “Bone China” for World Around and “Halogen” for the Project Lodge Benefit compilation.
