Cheap Time

L.A. indie label In The Red has an uncanny ability to turn out one irresistibly scummy garage-rock band after another. The label struck again in 2008 with Cheap Time, a Tennessee trio that spat out 14 punk and glam-rock nuggets in just under a half hour on its 2008 self-titled debut. The group has run through a variety of lineups since 2007, which might explain why most of Cheap Time’s discography consists of 7-inches like 2009’sWoodland Drive/Penny And Jenny. Guitarist Jeffrey Novak has been the only constant, though bassist Stephen Braren has since formed Cheap Time’s caustic (yet pretty) core.
