A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

Artist Cheap Trick

  • Cheap Trick

Cheap Trick has been playing practically nonstop for more than 30 years, and though it's never managed to regain the arena-filling heights of yore, its enthusiasm remains unchecked: While some may lump it in with the "county fairs and casinos" circuit from a distance, the group still has a fun, uplifting air about it. Cheap Trick's work ethic and punk roots helped it escape the hair-metal purgatory brought on by the unfairly maligned hit power ballad "The Flame," and its current audience includes fans both old and new. The band whips out its checker-patterned guitars and massive hooks here behind a new album simply called The Latest.
