The slickly produced lurch of Chevelle was custom-built for commercial success in a modern rock climate defined by post-grunge and nü-metal. In the wake of the platinum-selling Wonder What’s Next, however, sibling trio Joe, Pete, and Sam Loeffler found itself beset by brotherly bickering, resulting in Joe leaving the group. The band’s Tool-and-Helmet-shaped sound hasn’t changed much since Joe Loeffler’s 2005 departure, but 2009’s Sci-Fi Crimes added a dose of levity to Chevelle’s crunch-and-churn, tempering its standard white-boy angst with visions of the supernatural. In January, the band will release Any Last Words?, a CD/DVD set of its tenth anniversary two-night celebration last October at Metro in Chicago. Get ready to relive the magic, man.
