Chord

Gunning for the title of most aptly named band of all time, Chicago’s Chord creates individual musical compositions in which the ins and outs of only one chord are thoroughly examined per piece. Some Chord songs sit on a G chord for almost an hour straight; one would expect the level of music-nerd-snobbery-based boredom to reach unbearable levels. But the band buys into the gimmick so fully, and with such musical skill, that the concept works. The drones may result from one idea, but the music itself covers more than enough ground.
