Christina Perri

In a musical climate where bands are resorting to odd stunts and DIY marketing blitzes to get their names across, Christina Perri is doing it the old-fashioned way: major label deal, a Billboard Top 25 appearance, and slow-burning torch songs that score somewhere in the not-quite-alt demographic between fans of Coldplay and “Hey There Delilah.” Her 2011 debut album, Lovestrong, popped up wherever reasonably priced cardigans or unreasonably priced lattes are sold right around the time Perri’s profile was getting a primetime boost thanks to here single “Jar Of Hearts” turning up on Glee and Switched At Birth. Her song “A Thousand Years” trades the macabre imagery of preserved vital organs for syrupy-sweet sentiments, which is peculiar considering it was for Breaking Dawn—Part One, a blockbuster sequel that trades a lot of its syrupy-sweet sentiments for an extremely icky birth scene.
