Citizen Cope

Citizen Cope

Citizen Cope, a.k.a. Clarence Greenwood, started out as a beat-programmer and turntablist for stoner hip-hop outfit Basehead, but on his own, he fuses casual back-porch rapping with the kind of folk, soul, and world-beat amalgam dreamed up by Beck and Badly Drawn Boy. While 2006’s Every Waking Moment sometimes veered into Everlast and even Uncle Kracker territory, he’s since left RCA Records and, without the added burden of major-label meddling, self-released his far more consistent sophomore album, The Rainwater LP, last year and has been touring as a solo acoustic artist.
