Clutch
Clutch long ago dug into a groove that even those mesmerized by substances can lumber along to, and has since found little reason to stray from it—in fact, the band’s latest release, from earlier this year, is a re-issue of 2004’s Blast Tyrant. This is something that would start to weigh on most bands after a few years, but Clutch has stayed consistent—2009’sStrange Cousins From The West stays the course and brushes aside lethargy like just another burnt-out roach. Chalk it up to a lean, rhythmically sharp sound that cuts down to the basics instead of drowning in grungy sludge.
